Choosing to Smile

image of authors Julie, Glenda and MichelleThis week I had the pleasure of attending a book reading by three amazing women. Their book called: Choosing to Smile; Inspirational Life Stories of Three Friends Who Happened to Have Cancer was truly a labour of love and is a gift to the world (in my humble opinion).

Written in three parts, this book is not a story about cancer, but rather about life and how much sweeter it becomes by choosing to smile no matter what. Though I have not yet finished reading the book (it is more than 400 pages) I can tell you that you will laugh, cry, and thank god you're alive while you read it.

Julie Houlker, Glenda Standeven, Michelle Rickaby and Bonnie Holmes are four friends who all happended to have cancer. During a girls weekend, Julie shared a vision she'd had about publishing their stories in an inspirational book. All four, though none considered themselves to be authors, agreed to make the vision a reality. Sadly, Bonnie was unable to finish her story because the cancer took her life. Choosing to Smile, the three remaining friends gathered all their resolve to complete the book.

Few of us are fortunate enough to be untouched by cancer in some way. I lost my grandfather and father to it and have five other family members who are survivors, plus several friends who are living with cancer.

Choosing to Smile resonates with me and I'm happy to be able to further the cause by encouraging you to do the same. Learn more by visitng the website: www.choosingtosmile.com
